What's a reasonable firing range in WWI?  400 yds?  400 yds / 20 mph differential speed = 41 seconds of being plugged.  That's why I gave up on WWI; you can't get a usable speed advantage.  Altitude is useless; if you dive you rip your wings off or, if you don't, the high drag kills any excess speed almost instantly.  Once you engage you are committed to a turn fight and the DrI wins.

The dr1 doesn't always win, not by a long shot. I play in there most of the time I am on aces high and there are some really good pilots in there that fly the D7 and the F1 and they can usually press their advantages to win the fight. It takes a lot of time to learn because they fly very different then the WWII plane set but if you spend a lot of time in one airplane in there and learn how it flies you can do very good. I have become tired of the MA lately and have spent most of my time in the WW1 arena and there is a great bunch of guys in there and it can be a lot of fun.
