Getting someone else's kill
« on: March 28, 2012, 06:53:52 AM »
No film.  M4 versus T34/85.  We shoot at same time and I get killed.  While driving back from the spawn, a countryman shoots the guy that got me...I get the kill and he gets an assist.  I'm bout 800 behind the guy that shoots him and haven't fired a shot after spawning back in.  How does this happen?

zippo I think what happened is you upped in the same type tank that you got shot down in and were too quick for the mainframe to catch the time change. When yo fired you scored more damage points than the other guy and that is why you scored the kill and he didn't.

It's important to understand that the "kill" is awarded to the person who puts "the most lead" into a target regardless as to what breaks off.  For example I could put 9 rounds into someone and do no apparent damage to them.  Then you could put 1 round into them and blow them up.  I would get awarded the kill even though you were technically the one that caused them to go boom.

The only exception to this rule is if a plane is already critically damaged (i.e. missing a complete wing or on fire).  Once this happens any further damage that plane takes doesn't count towards who gets the kill.  In this example you could put 1 round into a plane and set it on fire.  Then I could come and put 9 more rounds into it finishing him off.  In this case you would be awarded the kill because my 9 rounds didn't count.

However you're correct in that you shouldn't have been assigned the kill after you died.  This has happened to me as well on a few rare occasions but it's definitely not a common enough occurrence to be a huge priority as far as bug fixes are concerned.

It's an old bug with the game.  Each player has a unique ID and when they die, they lose that unique ID and get another one.  What happened is that you didn't lose the unique ID when you died and received credit for the kill.

Thanks for the input.  It's the first time it happened to me that I know of.
