Ground textures not loading
« on: April 15, 2012, 06:28:15 PM »
Howdy...Just did a reinstall of the game and for whatever reason the ground textures won't load up :bhead. It gets as far as buildings and trees, and thats it. Everything else remains white. I'm using the same settings as before. Any suggestions? ...Thanks

Sounds like there are resource issues with the computer.  Video card, system RAM, CPU load or any combination of those.

Sometimes the defaults are not appropriate for the video card as video card manufacturers gladly make low end video cards which really cannot do many things real time, but over time they can, thus we end up enabling options that really should not be enabled.

A DXDIAG output would go a long way to solve that.

Yea it's an older computer ( around 8 yrs old or so) and vid card. Which is probably the problem like you say.
Pentium 4  2 ghz
1.25 gig ram
ATI RATHEON 9500/X 1050 SERIES(HD1900) 256mb
about 5 gig of hard drive left.

Works fine after it loaded the first time after the re-install or an adjustment to the graphic settings. Usualy duriing the first takeoff it's good to go. The clipboard map still takes 3-4 minutes or so to load up fully though.  Other than that it runs fine. Video can get jumpy when it gets crowded up there but it's no biggie. On a side note, the HI RES was a bit too much for my system, had to uninstall, darn shame because it looked good...oh well.

The ATI 9500 is avery low end card.  I also imagine it has very little video RAM, as compared to todays cards.

With that system you should be running the folliwng settings:

In "Video Settings":
1) No anti-aliasing (slider all the way left).
2) Maximum Texture Size of 256, or less.
3) Video resolution of 1280x1024, or less.

In the games "Options->Graphic Detail" panel.
1)  Check all options with the word "Disable" in them.
2)  Move the distance slider close to the minumum distance.
3)  Uncheck anything with the word "Enable" in it.

In the games "Options->Graphic Detail->Advanced" panel
1)  Check "Detailed Water" and uncheck everything else.

That should help load times.
