is range text limited to where you took off from?

'd be willing to say that the "range/room" chat is for ANYONE within 6000 yards (slightly more, actually).  It has nothing to do with where you upped from.  Stop and think about it.  Just how far away has a player flown in bombers or a long range fighters and STILL been able to talk on range vox???

It has nothing to do with where you upped, but rather who is within range of you.  There may be a glitch of some sort that allows 2 players to keep a line open once the typical range is exceeded, but I'm not recalling that ever happening to me.

True, but only for Vox.    For text "room" channel, it is based only on where you upped from.

As far as I am aware, this is true for Range vox, but Range TEXT goes by 'room' - ie, at any particular field, Range text in the tower would not be seen by anyone currently in the hangar, for instance.  Also, anyone taking off from that field would be able to communicate with anyone else taking off from the same field by Range text, even if they end up at opposite ends of the map, but would not see any text sent in the tower or hangar, or from anyone nearby who took off from a different field.  Range Vox works to anyone within range, whereas 'Room' Text works to anyone in the same virtual 'room'.  Confusing I know!

The other radio aspect people often get confused about is "Range" Vox while in the tower (which is actually labeled Room Vox in the tower).  It can only be heard by other people in the tower.  It can't be heard by players in vehicles or planes near the field.  So it doesn't do any good to use Range/Room Vox from the tower to say "so and so get the M3 approaching the maproom!"; he can't hear you.

there is no range text.

so now that the uninformed 'Room Text" users that have been talking to themselves thinking it behaved like Range Vox know this...

the real question is can we have a "Range Text" for people without a mic?

maybe change room to range since the whole purple color of range vox and room text is confusing?

not to mention how much more useful range text would be over room text.
