70 F-15E performs the “Elephant Walk”
« on: April 17, 2012, 09:28:25 AM »
Nearly 70 F-15E Strike Eagles of the 4th Fighter Wing performed an “Elephant Walk” during a Turkey Shoot training mission on Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, N.C., on Apr. 16, 2012: a contingent larger than a mid-size European air force (well not exactly HAF owns about 295 fighters :D) .

The wing, with aircrews assigned to the 333rd, 334th, 335th, and 336th Fighter Squadrons, generated about 70 sorties to destroy more than 1,000 targets on bombing ranges across the state, to commemorate the 4th’s victory over the Luftwaffe on Apr. 16, 1945.

No wonder Greece has killed itself economically. Did they already decide to dump the 8 billion spending for submarines etc. or are they still nuts?

Impressive. We used to do that at the end of NATO TAC EVALS with F-111s at RAF Upper Heyford back in the 80s. That was quite a sight as well.  :aok

Thanks!

Man..  been up an down that flightline a few times in the years I was part of 4th TFW.
4th was all F-4E's then.

Was where I made Tsgt, was Wing TODO for awhile, worked with some of the best I ever met from the Wing Commander on down.
They were *sharp* .. ie:
My first Red Flag with the 4th, first mission at Nellis .. they downed alla aggressors.

All of them.

Pilot's comment in debreif 'Mebbe we should fly as aggressors?' .. an stuff . . it was a good day.

Sad day later on was England losin 8 of their aircraft ..findin out how low is too low.
They went in as a formation ..small rise got 'em on ingress to target area.

Nother base lost a recce F-4 in a box canyon.

There are no easy days on the line.

Best moment was watchin the solo Thunderbird workup in his brand new F-16
..happened while we were preppin to launch a strike package..
.,.*everyone* stopped and watched :)

Thunderbirds had not been out yet in their F-16's ..was an amazin upgrade from the ill-fated T-38's

Nothing has topped their F-4 shows yet, IMHO
.. that solo across the crowd from behind would rattle your guts and scare the *crap* out of people :)

Air Power!

Knew that would give you wood.    :aok
