Most collisions happen because the consequences for a collision are next to nil.

When I collide, it is usually diving with much greater speed then my target and staying on him to get just a few more bullets into him.  Smack.  Stayed on target an instant too long.

I collide because colliding was very common in World War II aerial combat as 9/10 pilots were noobies and I'm a bit of a history walnut - and half the time the collision code will kill the other guy and not me :)

When I collide, I do so because I'm a dweeb and flew too fast.

I collide because I get too locked on to my target.

Most often I misjudge my opponent's maneuver.  There have been a few times I thought my opponent was turning away, when he was turning towards me.  I ended up with a head on shot, and collision.

When it happens again a few minutes later, I figure I've been flying too long, I am tired, and it's time to quit for a while.
