Is it possible to have two copies of game on one pc.
« on: April 27, 2012, 06:33:07 PM »
The reason I ask is...With my computer and vid card both being old, whenever I make a graphics adustment it takes hours for it to load all the ground textures again. But once it does it's good to go whenever I start the game. So what I would like to try is having another copy and test the adjustments on that. Am I making any sense. And would that work?...thx.

I am pretty sure you can only do it if you have a dual boot.  but I think everybody else is gonna think that it shouldnt take hours for your puter to load graphics.   at least I dont think it has to download everything everytime you make a chance.  it doesnt on mine.  my guess is that something else is slowing your puter down.  post a dxdiag see if anybody can help ya.

A bit of exaggeration on my part. I'd say about an hour. But after that initial hour or so it loads up without a problem whenever I start the game. Computer is almost 10 years old and vid card has 256 mb. Skuzzy went through some tips for me in another thread. But like I said it runs fine after that first wait.

I have the settings at..

1440x900,
512 texture size (actually thought I had it at 1024,may try that tomorrow)
Detailed water and terrain off.
Everything else is default.

Pentium 4  2 ghz
1.25 gig ram
ATI RATHEON 9500/X 1050 SERIES(HD1900) 256mb
about 5 gig of hard drive left.

Just did some messing with the graphics. Found out what was causing the problem/ big hit.  When I checked detailed terrain, everything went white, when I unchecked it went back to normal. I was able to increase textures to 1024 with no problem. Also just about maxed distance and object detail with no problem. So it's no detailed terrain or water.......No biggie. What was happenning was I would uncheck the detailed terrain/water, make my adjustments then decide to go back to default not realizing that terrain and water were checked by default....lol. :bhead

EDIT..Detailed water is now good to go too, forgot to try it without the detailed terrain checked.

If you can only go with one, check "detailed water" because it will more accurately display where water meets land and detailed terrain.
