New pilot seeking 1 to 1 tuition
« on: May 01, 2012, 03:24:39 AM »
Hi I am a brand new pilot and am seeking some help off someone who can show me the ropes to get up to speed flying one or two of the planes.

I have read much of the excellent training docs and many of the training vids buy would like to spend time with someone willing to help to enable me to benefit from their experience.  I did send an e-mail to the trainers address but unfortunately it bounced ( dunno if it's ceased or if it's full?)

Areas I could do with some good advice:

•plane selection
•validation of my shaky landing technique
•advice on the game in general (when is it busy, where are the best places to hang out etc)
•help with in game coms

I live in the UK and will be online most evenings this week at about 8 pm.

I have been hanging around in the training area but am yet to see anyone else in that arena.

As I said I am brand new so apologies if this note or one similar has been posted before.

Thank you in advance

Usal

I'll be in the Training Arena this afternoon. I can spare you an hour to go through those points. In game name: nrshida. Just look for me, I'll be beating up the airfield at A1.  :salute

Hi Usalman and welcome to Aces High.

You should have gotten an email from the trainers that said this:

We got your message!

Here are a variety of ways you can get help playing Aces High:

For most game questions, you'll find basic answers in the Help area, here - http://hitechcreations.com/ahhelp/index.html

For advanced gameplay questions, you'll find answers in the Aces High Trainers area - http://trainers.hitechcreations.com

You'll find a wealth of information on the Aces High Bulletin Board, where you can keep up with the latest Aces High news and events - http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php

To schedule time with an Aces High Trainer, please post your request in the Help and Training forum of the Aces High Bulletin Board and someone will contact you - http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/board,10.0.html

When you post your message, please include this information so we can match you with a trainer:

- your in-game username
- your time zone
- some days and times you're available
- give us an idea of what you'd like help with

*Note that you must register to post on the Bulletin Board. Your Bulleting Board name does not have to be the same as your in-game username.

If you didn't get that, please let us know. The auto-responder was broken a little while ago, so maybe it never got fixed. But, you did all the right things to come here and post a message.

There usually is (are) trainer(s) in the Training Arena in the late afternoons, Eastern US Time, which is after 8PM your time. That's 4AM for me, so don't expect to see me!

Other Trainers will be along shortly to set up a time and day with you. They check the bulletin board daily.

Welcome and have fun!

Thx Vudu15, I'll check them out. 1v1 is definately my main weakness among many weaknesses lol.  My biggest problem in 1v1 is losing visual right after the merge.

Welcome Usalman.

One thing to do before flying is to set up your stick........or you flying will suffer regardless of talent.

The search function here does not work well so you would probably have difficulty finding any previous threads on game setup.

First is to get the stick set up in windows such that you can watch the + sign in the box in joystick properties and check whether the movement represents your stick movement through all of the axis.

Some sticks act super sensitive the first few pulls after a windows reboot and settle down only after having been moved a bit on each axis.

You can check if you have this issue by fresh booting your computer and going to the joystick properties and watching to see if the axis "tops out" when you've only pulled the stick 40% of the way.

Exercising the stick on all axis for a few pulls settles it down.

If you have this issue, a powered hub usually takes care of it for some but not all.

Once in game, you need to set your "stick scaling", deadband, and damping.

I usually go with no damping and a very small amount of deadband so I don't get creep in tanks or mannable guns.

The default scaling slider settings don't suit all people but a staircase type progression is a good starting point.

You can spawn a plane on the runway and hit F3 to get external view........then you zoom in enough to see the control surfaces.......which follow your stick movements and might give you a better view of what your stick does to the plane.

There's more too it than that, but nothing else will go well for you here if your stick's inputs aren't doing what you want them to do.

No problem and for both of yall if you have a question about the videos you can pm me here or on the video itself I check both several times a day.

Usalman, if you got a bounce from the trainers email address, please PM me with the exact response and provide your email address as well.  I will research it and find out why that happened.

Usalman, sorry couldn't stay longer in the TA with you.
The views are very important, so have a tinker around with them.  Each plane must be set up for it's own views.
A good practice is to fly offline, in and around the drones.  Pick one and keep a visual on it while maneuvering.
Also, map the buttons on your stick to the functions you use most, this will save you from reaching for the keyboard and enable you to keep your hands on the controls.  Can take a while for the muscle memory but is well worth the time setting things up
Most important is to have fun :D

See you around
