Like most US bombers the B-24 had black rubber de-icing strips fitted to its leading edges. However on many B-24s these were removed to save weight and drag and because they could occasionally rip, peel back and jam control surfaces.
On the AH B-24 these de-icing strips are formed from a small patch applied multiple times over the skin. This makes it very hard to accurately skin a plane that had the strips removed in RL. Would it be possible to remove the de-icing strip patch from the AH B-24 3D model? The different finish that these strips had from bare metal can now be done with the spec map.
This would require skinners to paint the strips directly on to each control surface if they are needed. I realise it would also make any current skin that would have had the strips in RL require a rewrite to be accurate. However despite this I think it would be an improvement to the look of the plane.
