Bethesda isn't doing Elder Scrolls Online.  It is just a license for another company.

And I agree, what makes the Elder Scrolls series fun is stuff that cannot be done in an MMO.

Sadly, the last one I really liked was Daggerfall.  As soon as they started doing them on consoles they started sucking.

I am still waiting for the sequel to Fallout 2. It's going to be a long wait.

Oblivion, except for some improved mechanics was a league lower than Morrowind. Skyrim I have not played, but it still seems dumbed down - I must give it a try before judging more. Turning it online in MMO form seems like a bad idea in an attempt to cash in on the singled player success. It will have nothing of those things that made the single player series so good.

I played both, but am curious.  I see a lot of people online talking about how Morrowind was head and shoulders above Oblivion.  I'm curious.  Why was it that much better?  The only thing that really sticks out in my memory was the custom spells aspect of Morrowind.

Yup.  That doesn't affect that it isn't being done by Bethesda and is just an IP license for another developer.

Yeah it kind of does. I mean it is not some random company from Russia. These companies work together.

The overall package was much "tighter" so to speak. I totally hated the main story in Oblivion. Never followed it, because closing the "gates" was not fun and it just kept repeating. Didn't like the theme of it at all. The worst thing about Oblivion was the "scalable" encounters. Morrowind gave you no slack. When you wandered into a cave you never knew what you may face - it could be encounters designed for players 20 levels above you, or below you. That created suspense and a feeling of advancement when you return later to take your revenge upon the critters that whooped you 10 levels ago. Instead, in oblivion everything was the same difficulty - never above you and if you returned later the puny starving bandits were wearing golden plated armors that would not shame a prince. WTF? they won the lottery while I was away?
Morrowind had more weapon categories than Oblivion. Spears and other polearms for example disappeared from the world of Oblivion.

Oblivion, beyond the much improved graphics and animations, has the ability to operate magic and melee while in Morrowind you had to switch modes, so it was either or thing. That's the biggest thing I'd give in favor of Oblivion.

Morrowind still has an active moders comunity. There are som amazing mods that improve the graphics beyond what I could believe possible. The animations are still **** though.

Good game - way too short and way too easy to just follow the main story line.

Like, ya know, when that thing that makes you move, it has pistons and things, When your thingamajigy is providing power, you do not hear other peoples thingamajig when they are providing power.
