my 2nd attempt at helping local economy
« on: May 17, 2012, 08:42:13 AM »
i think i'd posted here before, when i hired a friend to work for me part time. since then, i'd tried another friend...actually almost at the same time, as the first guy could only work certain days, so i had the other one coming in "on call".
whelp.....i found out the hard way, that friends don't make good employees, and quite awhile ago, i stopped using either one, dancing around carefully enough so as to not screw the friendships. if i'd kept them working for me, neither of them would be friends right now......and i value friendship too much to have let that happen.
i've been working alone again since then. lately, business has been to the point where i feel i need someone. can't get any response from the local trade schools, or even the local community colleges auto program, so i put the word out with business acquaintances, and my tool guys.

well....my computer guy sent someone he knows to me last night for an interview. this guy's been in the field for over 20 years, and is working 2 days a week for another shop. he's talked to that shop owner, and he doesn't mind him working a little at another shop, to make ends meet.
he starts monday, 2 days a week, hopefully letting me build back up to being able to employ him full time.

i'm feeling good about this. he came with a good rec. from my computer guy, and i'm checking with 2 of his previous employers later today. one of them, i worked for for over 10 years.....and rather strangely, he was my replacement when i quit from that employer so many years ago. the other one i use to farm out my transmission work to, so i know both well enough to know they won't bs me.

hopefully this goes well for me, as my leas is up for renewal in march, and i want to re-up/.

Good luck!  Taking on help is always a risk and a tough decision.
