Fried computer
« on: June 02, 2012, 01:30:03 PM »
Well, I think I successfully fried my box.

I bought 2 sticks of 1GB mem, pulled out the 512 and put the 2 new ones in.

While I had the box open I decided to blow the dust out.  I removed 1 cooling fan, blew it off and replaced it.

Put it back together, plugged everything back in and it wont fire up.

All my other acc have power, but the box has nothing.

What did I do now?  It seems like everything I touch here lately just goes to crap.

It could depend on what you blew it out with. Was there any moisture in what was doing the blowing?

First thing I would do is unplug and plug everything back in, one at a time. You might have just knocked something loose. Be sure the HD has a power cable plugged in. Be sure the keyboard and mouse is plugged in right. Fire it off with the side panel off to see if fans start, any lights on the MB light, does it "beep" after you turn it on?

Unplug your computer from the wall and hit the power switch a few times with the cord unplugged. Plug it back in and see if it works. If not, do the same thing again but this time after you unplug your computer, take that new ram out and put in the old stuff.

Make sure the CPU fan is plugged into the proper spot. If the MB doesnt sense there being one it will not turn on.
If you like the Sick Puppy Custom Sound Pack the please consider contributing for future updates by sending a months dues to Hitech Creations for account "Chalenge." Every little bit helps.

+1, seen one mobo with two fan connectors side by side and the markings beside them were tiny as a bug's waste...

And if you're sure it's in the right connector, the speed indicator wire may have got loose. You can test this with another fan: Just plug your CPU fan into another connector and the test fan into the CPU dedicated one. I have one motherboard that doesn't wake up without both a CPU and a case fan connected!

Step nr.1 when troubleshooting:

Reverse your steps.

1) You don't need to put the dust back to the fan, just plug it back in securely.
2) Remove the new ram and put the old one back
3) If you couldn't resist the temptation of messing with BIOS i.e. overclock, reset your bios as the first thing you do.

Good luck.
