Horror games
« on: October 27, 2012, 11:32:13 PM »
Not a lot of games are able to scare the crap out of me.  In fact the only one that has truly terrified me is Amnesia (I didn't sleep for 2 days).  A lot of other games have been able to briefly scare me to the same extent as someone jumping out from around a corner.

This video came up in my youtube sub box and I thought it was very fitting for the time of year.  It didn't scare the crap out of me, but it did make me jump a few times.  Fans of the Yogscast have probably already seen it.

I loved Amnesia, one of the best games I ever played, even if it did made me scream like a little girl. Can't wait for the second one to come in 2013. Although it kind of ruined all other horror games for me. Basically, anything that isn't Amnesia doesn't scare me anymore. I chuckle at the other horrors.  :devil

You should at least give Slender a crack, and it's for free. Freaks me the hell out while playing in the middle of the day with all lights on.

I did, it was like playing Hello Kitty Island Adventures compared to Amnesia.

Skip to 4:15 for the best part, although the rest of the video is pretty funny as well. 4:15 had me rolling with laughter first time I saw it.

Dead Space was hard for me to play @ night with the lights off, but it's mostly a 'making you jump' kind of thing with well orchestrated in game events + music to create the atmosphere

Did you see my dad on dogfights yet?
I'll be seeing you face to face possibly next month.

Dead Space has its moments, decent storyline had me going. Doom3 was rather fun as well, scary when I was younger but now it's like a shooting gallery, mindless brain splattering.

Basically, any "horror" game that claims to be one yet gives you a bad bellybutton laser rifle doesn't seem like a true horror game to me.

If you liked Amnesia then you should also check out Frictional Games' earlier Penumbra series. Same type of game.

Slenderman is Amnesia on laxatives.

Fun game as well, but the outdated graphics is a mood breaker at parts. Amnesia has it just right.
