Game regularly freezes when alt-tabbing

If I alt-tab out of the game do look something up and alt-tab back I regularly freeze.  Its a gamble everytime I do it.  It happens more often when im on the way to land kills...but that could be just because I regularly have kills to land.
Honestly it happens more often if I change views too soon after alt-tabbing but it also just happens without doing that.

I run everything except for building shadows.
I have dual screen, I havent even looked into it yet, but can Aces High be ran in windowed mode?

To get out of the freeze I have to ctrl-alt-delete and then hit escape...that brings up the error that aces high has failed.

If you are running with all the options you have stated, you need to make sure you are not running with a lot of anti-aliasing and the shadow texture size is set to 1024, or so.  1GB of video RAM is not enough to run every option with high levels of anti-aliasing and/or a large shadow texture size.

When the video card gets low on available RAM, things can get unstable.  Alt-tabbing unloads all of Aces High resources, then it has to reload when you go back.  Unfortunately, Windows still has some video card memory allocated when we got to reload and it does not free it until the game assumes primary application status.

The game cannot run in 'windowed' mode.  It would require even more resources to do that and performance would be horrible.

Just to update, anti-aliasing was off and shadow was at 512.  I bumped AA to max and Shadow to 2048 and now it only messes up once out of every hundredish alt-tabs as opposed to 1 in 5 back then.
Game still plays pegged at 60fps with everything on so I doubt its a performance issue.
Now when it does a bad alt-tab the game is still playable I just lose keyboard and mouse input.  I still see the game on one monitor and can fly with the joystick but typing and clicking is as if the game is not selected as the primary window.
