Sort of.  Room means "anyone who lifted/spawned from the same base you did"  Range means "anyone near by" (sorry, don't remember the distance)

If you spawn from a V base, and a plane is overhead, "room" text will not appear on their screen because you came from a different base.

I like the way it is now... If you want to say something to people in range, use Vox.  If you want to communicate with people that upped fom where you did, use room text.  And if you don't have a mic, you can type on country to get those in range or possibly others not yet in range, but interested or heading that way.  And if you want to communicate to a specific player, use .pm.

So you have four choices.

range vox is called "Room" also.

Only when in tower. Inflight it's called "range".

That's kinda' the point of being able to have a range text.  You wouldn't have to broadcast to the country, just to talk to the plane flying next to you.  It would cut down on the Country watermelon chat.  ;)

Use .pm or Vox.   :aok

Let's say your mic is broken. You fly over a friendly vehicle spawn and you see a bad guy. You would like to warn them its coming. Are you going to PM all of them or would it be nice to have range text as an option?

Sure, another option is nice, but in the meantime nothing wrong with using country on those rare occasions your mic is broke AND you fly over a veh spawn at another base AND you see a bad guy AND you want to warn more than one friendly.  Not like that will happen every day.

Country: FYI, guys at V32 NW spawn, bad guy out.

I might be at another base and want to gv some, now I know where to go.   :aok

Making due with what you have is not rocket science either.   :)

Another option is always nice.  :old:

range text is in green and room text is in purple---green--everybody in your country can see your message--purple--only people in your area can see your message--least ways thats the way it's supposed to work

No it's not supposed to work this way and it does not.

purple - ROOM text - can be read by everybody that launched from the same base as you, regardless of range. It works all across the map. On the other hand, if you fly next to someone who upped from a different base, he won't be able to read the text.

If you are in the tower, it's actually working for the ROOM you are in, i.e. tower, hangar, oclub.

[SHIFT][/] is the keyboard shortcut for whatever you have tuned to Radio 2. It could be anything, not just "Room".  ;)

Radio 1 - [/]
Radio 2 - [SHIFT][/]
Radio 3 - [CTRL][/]
Radio 4 - [ALT][/]

and

radio 5 -[shift][\]

Purple = room text while in any room ie... Tower, oclub, hangar or map room

and once you launch, it becomes RANGE text for that particular base/ cv you up from

Green = country wide text, everyone on your country can see it

Hope this helps

To clarify, there is no such thing as range text. If two people up from A1 and then fly to the opposite ends of the map they can still talk on channel 3.

purple - ROOM text - can be read by everybody that launched from the same base as you, regardless of range. It works all across the map. On the other hand, if you fly next to someone who upped from a different base, he won't be able to read the text.

Err, what he said.

Well it sure is not still called "room text", once you have launched!

It is in fact local text specific to the base one has launched from...

but I could have sworn I already posted that.... maybe I didn't... oh well
