posthumous kills
« on: June 30, 2012, 07:43:35 AM »
This just happened a few minutes ago but it happens all the time:

Two planes are de-acking a vbase.  I hit and remove the wing of the F4U and quickly reverse direction and hit the F6F on the snout.  Right after the hit sprite on the F6, his rounds take me out.  I look out the tower and they both went down (of course).

Why shouldn't I get those kills?  Same thing happens in dogfights.  One plane destroys another but dies before the damaged plane hits the turf and either someone else is awarded a proxy or no kill is recorded at all.  Whomever scores the most damage (or crippling damage) should get the kill, dead or alive.  Is this the way kills are scored in wartime?  Yes this is a game but still... :headscratch:

To every man upon this earth, death cometh soon or late.
And how can man die better, than facing fearful odds.
For the ashes of his fathers and the temples of his Gods."

There can only be one winner in a fight. It's determined by who dies first. It doesn't matter who dies last.

caldera is right.  there's a point after which an you cannot damage an airplane anymore, that was made to stop people from shooting at falling pieces and getting a kill awarded.  at that point a kill should be awarded to whoever caused the most damage right away instead of waiting for the pieces to fall down to earth or pilot to bail.

This has nothing to do with kills and everything to do with credit.  You know you shot them down, you just want the atta-boy to go
with that.

That wouldn't change his complaint that both die and only one gets a kill but it would be funny if you got a kill for X amount of damage then your "kill" landed safely.

no once the max amount of damage is inflicted, the airplane cannot fly.   it might crashland if low enough but that's about it.

How can you get an "atta-boy" if you are already dead?  :headscratch:

The kill credit would come up when the results of your handiwork cause the enemy to explode or crash.  You would already be in the tower or on the next sortie.  No kills to land and that's not the point anyway.

Posthumous kills would encourage suicidal game play. IMO

In other words, they might land successfully on the runway after you "kill" them taking off.

There's a different type of gameplay?
