So sad that my Favorite WW2 era plane gets flown by so many people who don't like to engage with it.

I'm a proud 51 pilot, not because it can run faster than most, but because it's my favorite plane. I consider myself a skilled (not necessarily great) Pony pilot that uses this plane to all of its strengths, which includes getting into dogfights at mid to low altitude. You wont normally see me run from a fight unless its looking like I'm going to have to DIRECTLY deal with 3 or more planes with an E advantage on me, and even then I'll spin you every different way and whip you side to side to make you work for that kill :P

I usually look for higher enemies to engage when im in my mustang. They usually make a few bnz passes, get frustrated and then engage me directly thinking they can easily out-turn me in thier Spit, 109, ETC...Problem is they are usually way too fast and end up engaging recklessly and its usually not a problem to get on their 6 and kill them. It's the patient ones who keep their E and dont fall for my bait that give me trouble. There are only a few guys who actually do that in the MA. The mustang takes a lot of crap because its such a popular plane and a lot of idiots and timid sissies fly it. There is however a small group of guys who know how to fly it right, and will always fight. This is why I always encourage people to look more at the player than the plane they fly. Of course the plane matters, but flying style and willingness to fight are things I look at more than anything when judging if someone is a worthy opponent or just another target. Even if a guy is not very good...the willingness to fight is something I really respect. Thats how you get good.

the group of guys that fight in the 51 is very small indeed  :rofl

I wouldn't call it a "group" more like a couple/few........the last line in your post I very much agree with :aok
