They call it "common sense", then why is it so uncommon?

It is Crossfire compatibile which is similar to SLI. Just make sure the motherboard you get supports it. I had some 6850s in crossfire and although they seemed to make a difference in many games, they didn't seem to do anything at all in AH. From a pure performance standpoint, you will avoid a lot of headaches going with a single card solution if you can do it. Spending 500 bucks on an awesome GPU is far better IMO than spending it on 2 cards. Many games have issues with micro stuttering and other strange anomalies while using SLI or Crossfire. I know you are going for a show piece, so all that might not matter so much to you.

think this one would more than play aces high if you match it with a 2500k minimum.  shadows would be at 4096 with no problem.

Something like this might work: http://www.ebay.com/itm/PCI-E-PCIE-PCI-Express-16x-Slot-Riser-Card-Extender-Expansion-Cable-1U-2U-/120830232042?pt=PCA_Video_Conferencing_Webcams&hash=item1c220b05ea#ht_3007wt_1174

There may be higher quality cables out there, so you may want to search. I have not seen a riser cable like this for DDR3 memory, but that doesn't mean they dont exist. If it was me spending 1000 bucks on a new system, I am not too sure I would trust these things, but good luck.
