418 Sqn RCAF Boston
« on: July 18, 2012, 05:22:51 AM »
I decided to skin the Boston to complete the set of 418 Squadron RCAF intruders. The Boston is an old AH1 standard shape and therefore lacks the polygon count of more recent shapes and has lots of stretching and mirroring issues. However it does have no less than three 1024 res tiles making up its exterior so it is possible skin a lot of detail on it. I had a look at painting on the exhaust flash hiders, but it looked a bit crude so I deleted them.

418 Squadron was the RCAF's highest scoring fighter squadron in terms of aircraft destroyed, both in the air and on the ground. They operated at night without radar, attacking enemy aircraft over their fields as they took off and landed. 418 also attacked ground targets such as communications, airfields and small factories. This aircraft TH-O was named Ottawa Ontario and was lost on 20th May 1942 while over Holland.

Thanks, Greebo.

Who needs Spitfires when you have Bostons and Mosquitoes?   :P

Gorgeous! You use a tablet for these works of art?
... missions were to be met by the commitment of alerted swarms of fighters, composed of Me 109's and Fw 190's, that were strategically based to protect industrial installations. The inferior capabilities of these fighters against the Mosquitoes made this a hopeless and uneconomical effort. 1.JD KTB

Thanks, I just use a mouse to create skins. I tried a couple of tablets a long time ago and didn't really get on with them. Possibly these were a bit cheap and cheerful though. I'm going to do some research and see what the best ones are, maybe find a shop that will let me try it out.

Wacom seem to be the best out there, from what I have read. It will probably be the smallest Intuos if I do get one, I don't have enough desk space for a bigger one.

I have the Pen and touch...110$.....well worth the price, very intuitive for someone that has used pencils in the past, you wont regret it for sure...

although your stuff with a mouse is awesome already :aok

I think you will be extremely happy with a tablet.
