Watch Near Earth Asteroid Live 7/22- 7:30 pm EST.
« on: July 22, 2012, 05:01:03 PM »
If anyone is interested, a "city block" size Asteroid will be making a near Earth pass this evening.
It can be viewed live starting at 7:30 pm EST, from the Slooh Space Telescope.

That'll leave a mark. Hoping it won't be influenced by Earth's gravity on this pass.

It will be influenced.  Everything that passes close enough to notice is influenced by Earth's gravity.  The real questions are how much and to what effect.
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.

Not really.  I can't think of anything that would be stranger than an asteroid passing close to a planet or other gravity well and not being affected.  If it were to do so it would be pretty firm evidence that it wasn't really an asteroid and instead something manufactured with propulsive capability.
