Big A** Bird
« on: August 01, 2012, 04:20:59 AM »
This is my skin of Lt Howard Park's 513th FS P-47D-30 "Big A** Bird II" (BBS profanity filter does not like the "A" word). As part of the 406th Fighter Group, the 513th squadron specialised in ground support, hitting trains, buildings, tanks and other vehicles with high velocity rockets. Lt Park sank a warship in Brest harbour using these rockets.

I have skinned the aircraft as a D-25 as the photo I have of the aircraft shows it lacked the fin fillet.

This is the first skin where I have employed AH's new environment mapping effect. This causes the terrain and sky around the aircraft to be reflected on the skin's surface and to a greater degree on the shinier parts of the skin.  The upper of the two runway screenshots shows the effect turned off and the lower one has it turned on. You can see the upper surfaces have a bluish tint reflecting the sky and the lower surfaces reflect the runway. In this case the effect is fairly subtle as I have the effect turned down to about 40%. Having it at 100% gives it too much of a chrome-like appearance for my taste.

Very cool, if I wasn't so partial to the 56th - I'd fly this skin!

Heh, always liked that particular P-47. The guy must have had my kind of sense of humour. :)

What can I say? Awesome job once again! You are totally right in turning the reflection down.
