Drop Tanks?
« on: August 14, 2012, 02:41:12 AM »
I was just on a escort run over 1sum41 and Dapacman, and dropped my DT's, this got me and 1sum thinking, it would be quite cool if HiTech could model Drop Tanks that catch fire if shot, and if you don't drop them in say.... 2 seconds it blows your wing off?

Thoughts?  :D
And just in case...

I dont think you can use the law of physics to support the idea of an explosion from drop tanks that would damage a wing.
If you like the Sick Puppy Custom Sound Pack the please consider contributing for future updates by sending a months dues to Hitech Creations for account "Chalenge." Every little bit helps.

In Bud Anderson's book, he tells of a story of the time he and Chuck Yeager pickled their drop tanks and then tried to strafe them to blow up the drop tanks on the ground.

Chuck Yeager also tells that story the two of them went off by themselves on their last mission together. saw nothing and dropped their tanks spent all their ammo tryin to make them catchfire.
meanwhile there had been a giant furball not far away and they missed tha action. when they got home their ground crew seeing the scorched wings from all the gunfire excitedly asked them how many the two of them had scored......
they had to sheepishly admit, that they had missed all the action...not exact words but as good as I can recall from the last time I read the story.
damage to the drop tanks would be cool but a fire???? highly unlikely....and please dont refer to the poor soul in the corsair that lost both tanks on landing and was burned to death

About 5 seconds in you can see the a/c has a drop tank attached which is hit and erupts.

If they want to run to their ack or friendlies that's fine.  It's up to me to catch them and not get killed in the process if I can.

Well - if Drops Tanks became part of the damage model - why not make the bomb in a bomber's bomb bay part of the damage model too...

Imagine popping a few rounds into a Lancasters cookie? BOOM GOES THE BOMBERS...

I'd be worried about my puny little fighter around 42x 1000lb bombs exploding at the same time within ranges of under 800 yards. Or 36x 500lb bombs or imagine if you hit a set of B29s... :huh

the game is concentrated on combat, not on shaking the screen.

Yeager and Anderson dropped thier tanks and spent thier entire ammo belts trying to light them on fire.
