Mirror image in gauges
« on: August 03, 2012, 03:07:28 PM »
The new glass in gauges looks fantastic. One thing, though: The mirror image on them is from tower. When the plane's nose is upwards, the gauges show the tower floor planks, when going downwards I see the tower window frames.

Try changing the environment mapping rate while flying.

I just tested it in the TA. When I first spawned, I saw the tower graphics reflected on the canopy and dials. When I moved the refresh the next notch over, so it's not a static image, it works just fine. Each click over sped up the refresh of the reflected environment just as advertised. When you move the slider back to "static" (the first notch) it snapshots the current reflection and applies it as the static image.

Actually I did that to test my quite old vidcard - Radeon HD3870/512. At the beginning the slider was set to "None" as default, one or two notches didn't change the situation. Adding more resulted the "old" dull gauges, seemingly disabling the new effect. All that during flight. Back to "None" or 1 notch brought the effect back after some time and a couple of deaths, still showing the tower. Oh, and the bulletproof rear window in 109-G6 seems to be made of same sort of glass. Would be cool if it reflected the cockpit rather than showing tower floor planks.

*snap* THAT"S what I'm seeing in the gauges.  Couldn't figure it out last night.  You're right, it is the tower.  Strange choice for that to be used as the refection for those of us that can't crank the slider up too far.  Using the pilot's body in the reflection would be purrfect.

For me, it only shows the tower as the default static map. If I move the slider to one of the "live" maps it changes to the actual environment, then I can move it back to the "static" map and get a still of whatever the environment was...at least for the canopy glass on the P51D I tried it with.

Alright. Today I had one notch right from the start. Tower all the way... Heard the same from others, too.
