P-47D-40 Gunsight Transparency
« on: August 04, 2012, 04:03:59 AM »
Longstanding gripe:  There are a couple planes I am actually discouraged from flying (late jugs, F4U-1A/D in particular) due to lack of transparency in the gunsight. I'll line up a shot only to lose the orientation of the target simply due to how "grayed out" the sight picture gets. The biggest gripe here is the P-47D40 (and beyond).  What would be a standard ride for me in the D40 comes in second to the D25 simply because of the gunsight.  The D-40 appears to have the same sight as the P-51D, but the gunsight on the Pony is substantially clearer and not a factor.  With rides like the F4U-1A/D and 38G this is understandable, but request D40, M, N transparency be matched to Pony's.

I was looking at the gun sights the other day. I was thinking we use to have the US P-51 sight but I don't see it there. Maybe it was a custom set of sights I had at one time but don't anymore. I looked for a custom set to down load but didn't see one. Anyone know where to find them now? I am a computer illiterate so white slow if you respond with down load info lol.

I've played with the alpha settings without success as it only affects the reticle transparency, not the lens itself.  I see no reason that the D40 and beyond should have poorer lens transparency given advances in sights later in the war. http://flickeflu.com/set/72157626321743582

What we should have is clarity on the order of the P-51/Tempest imho.

I've noticed that the glass in the K14 in the P47M\N is darker and the glass in the F4U-A1\D\C\4 is the same darker shade.

P51D K14 Reflector Plate Glass.

P47D-40 K14 Reflector Plate Glass.

F4U-1A Reflector Plate Glass.

Very minute, but noticeable and exponentially worse when glare is involved and/or head position moved forward.  Thanks for posting Bustr!   Should be an wasy tweak  :pray

I can understand the big blocky armored glass pane on the 38G getting in the way. My gripe is that I like the D40 and its sight isn't as clear as the identical sight on the 51 (or as in real life for that matter)...
