Was kinda the point. The video shows the mixture full rich so it'd be developing a lot less power at 6000 Msl, on top of the density altitude of 9,000 that the plane thinks its at

Maybe the hot air was generating a hotter than usual temperature reading in the engine so he riched it up?

Lots of speculation can be injected.

 i don't think that would've done that. i've launched in a 152 at max gross weight in nearly 100f temps. granted i was at 50asl, but the oil temp showed normal. of course she climbed like a wounded duck with cinder blocks on its ankles, but it climbed........
