VVKJ/HZL Skins.
« on: August 24, 2012, 06:29:37 PM »
Kind of been interested of late of the lesser known players of WWII & their vehicles.

Yugoslavia used many aircraft during the war 109's Hurri 1's. Then later in the war with Spit V's#352 Squadron RAF & so on and this was when they were fighting the Germans. Later when the Croatians sided with the Germans they had full usage of the 109 line as well as C202's & C205's Stukas as well as many other aircraft here is a few profiles & info I found on line. When some of the Croatians started to defect to the Russians they took their planes with them & slapped on Allied markings again.

Looks like Hauptmann Josip Helebrant may have had several schemes for his C202 or they are guessing on all profiles of his plane? I do have a lot of partial photos of these C202's none complete though they do show the yellow under the engine in some of them. If any one wants them let me know & I will post them.

Konrad Augner may be a better choice on the C202 a complete photo.

Re: Croat markings on the c2

It's not entirely certain looking at those photos that he had a yellow "chin." It could simply be the underside color. Other than that, it has the standard Macchi markings seen on other planes, and seems to be a pretty normal paint scheme (for a macchi, I mean).

The spots aren't perfect, but Croduh did a decent job here:

P.S. Not trying to deny you've got a good list of pics/profiles there. :)

This is the picture with the yellow.

Was more interested in getting black 1 in German markings so we could have a C202 model as well as the C205. The other pictures all look to be trainer planes in the above links.

Would really like to find a complete photo of these Croation aircraft just to see what markings they did have on the C202.

Ah, thanks. That would seemingly be a yellow chin!

P.S. As far as I know they used whatever camo was already on the aircraft. There was no specifically Croatian camo scheme.

After reading some more on line it seems that no one is sure exactly what the C202 black 1 was painted with German markings or Croatian. Every known photo seems not to show any insignia.

Bad news on the 202 front... I was doing a lot of 202 research on an unrelated post earlier today, refreshing my memory and looking for something else (reports of effectiveness vs allied planes), and what I was reading said that the c.202s in german markings were captures or training units only. They flew some c.205s in combat, but not the 202s. Those were flown in ANR markings. The German markings weren't combat markings.

Lots of references, but was also reading mushroom and squadron signal on the matter.

Of course, that doesn't discount the other national markings, such as croatian, etc.

Regarding the 110, apparently there was a single 110G-1 (G-2?) rumored to be in Croatian markings. They did not receive any shipments of them and it was supposedly a single plane handed over or possibly captured/acquired by the Croatians as the Germans were retreating. Theory is the Germans didn't have time to repair it so they either left it with the Croats or the Croats adopted it (or something). Interesting stuff, but not sure how that fits with AH skin requirements, and if it ever saw service/action (just the one of its type, it may have been a trainer, or an evaluation plane -- I don't know what its fate was).
