http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXKsrZjSwF4&feature=related
anyone here ever built one?  doesnt look toooo complicated if built with a turbo, looked at some that people built the whole thing, that looks complicated lol I dont have a machine shop.  whats your guys opinions.  I have already built a valveless pulse jet they are kinda neat but kinda lame as it is basically just a vaccum and lots of noise, want to build something cool lol :D

Good stuff but not much application.

A friend's dad across the street made one in 1980 from a corvair T3 turbo.

Wade's dad was very influential on my career path as he owned an original AC cobra (very early 260 MKI) that he also raced, captained the seaquarium boat after working his way up from dolphin show fish monger, was a stuntman (jumped out of a phone booth right before car hits it), and worked on the most exotic cars imaginable.

A lot of big name racers and mechanics were regular visitors which is funny because his son's (wade) boss of 14 years is now my boss and the exact same racers now show up at our shop 30 years later.

You can see him in Caddyshack as the guy who Rodney Dangerfield takes the helm from or the guy who takes the helm of the calypso when Jacques Cousteau was anywhere near florida or the islands.

A real man, he was.

Speaking of jet engine mayhem......

I built one but never fired it up.  I thought if I do this it could kill me and if it does not my neighbors will.  So it is a paper weight in my garage.
They call it "common sense", then why is it so uncommon?

Pulse jets are the way to go, easy to build, incredibly noisy and if you get the shape right good thrust.

so I ripped apart a vaccum cleaner, welded up a tube containing the bearings and supporting the compressor and turbine, I then welded up a cumbustion chamber which after doing it I think its too small.  took 1/4 inch steel cut a circle out, and cut blades into it and ground them down to an airfoil.  now gotta finish the outer case.  got the turbine blades balanced quite well using a prop balancer for rc planes and a file to fine tune it.  will post pics later, dont know if I dare try to fire it up but my compressor spins it right up(keeping face and body parts out of the way of rotating parts)
