While I am still wishing for a full update on torpedoes in this game, one simple wish would be for the late war Mk.13 torpedoes on the Avengers to at least have a proper drop speed and altitude modeled.
From the History of US Naval Operations in WW2 / Leyte (vol 12) by Samuel Eliot Morison - Pg 287 / Battle off Samar:
"When delivering torpedo attacks, the pilots followed standard doctrine, using plenty of altitude (10,000 feet and upward), a high speed approach, steep dive, and low, fast, jinking recovery. The ring-tail, one-ton torpedoes that they carried were well adapted for these tactics, since they could be dropped from 800 feet altitude and at speeds up to 290 knots."A quick look over at navweaps.com
http://www.navweaps.com/Weapons/WTUS_WWII.htm shows the late war Mk.13 with even better launch parameters than that:
These problems were greatly reduced by the latter years of the war. Torpedoes had fin stabilizers, nose drag rings and tail shroud rings added, all of which worked to slow the torpedo after it was dropped so that it struck the water nose-first and at an acceptable speed. These improved the drop characteristics such that the recommended aircraft maximum launch parameters were increased to a height of 2,400 feet (730 m) and a speed of 410 knots. We might see more people inclined to try torpedo attacks if they did not have to make that suicidal slow approach into CV ack at 200 ft. Even with the launch parameters increased, a torpedo bomber is still going to have to get pretty close to get that 33.5 knot torpedo to hit a CV that runs full out all the time, so I do not see this as adversely affecting the game balance.
