Tampa, Florida (CNN) -- Thousands in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama were being told early Monday to leave their Gulf Coast homes ahead of the arrival of Tropical Storm Isaac as forecasters warned it was gaining strength as it followed the same path Hurricane Katrina took seven years earlier.

The governors of the three states each declared a state of emergency, with Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley ordering mandatory evacuations to begin at 8 a.m. for residents who live along the coast and for those in some low-lying areas inland.

"I am urging everyone to take precautions now, monitor weather warnings, and be prepared for whatever Isaac may bring," Bentley said in a statement released Sunday.

A hurricane warning was issued for the northern coast of the Gulf of Mexico, from Morgan City, Louisiana, east to Destin, Florida, the National Hurricane Center said.

The tropical storm was expected to make landfall late Tuesday or Wednesday -- the anniversary of Katrina's landfall -- as a Category 1 hurricane, with winds of at least 74 mph.....

Even if the hurri misses lousianna they will still be crying for assistance.  :rofl  Last go-round Mississippi and Alabama stood strong and took care of business. The later storm in Texas... same thing, stood strong.

I had a friend on a camera crew who was supporting a journalist who wanted to show a neighborhood that still hasn't been fixed up.

They found the most aweful place imaginable and started filming when a guy walked up to them and told them that the place they were filming had never been submerged and that it's looked like that for 30 years.

That said, I hope they fixed up the water control because Isaac will be dumping rain right up the mississippi river.

It's still dumping inches per hour on me in west palm beach.

like pick-up trucks in trees about 15-20ft above the ground. I'm born and raised in N.O., have been thru many tropical storms and hurricanes in my 43 yrs.  Katrina is the only time I ever left. But she did hit at Cat 3. About 3 weeks after I got work thru my sister's temp company running the crew that did the initial clean up at the Superdome.

That was an.........experience....... to say the least.

Hey there Dacoon....first and foremost, i hope you....your family and friends are all safe, and give Isaac a good swift kick in the nuts  :aok

Yep, saw some crazy stuff. One thing that comes to mind was a house picked up off its foundation, moved out to the street, made an immediate right hand turn down the street,  came to the intersection of another street, made an abrupt left hand turn down that street and settled in the middle of the street. It traveled just like a car would. The vases on the tables were still there, not knocked over.

One thing i will say, the folks down there that i met with were some of the nicest ive ever had the pleasure meeting, a few i still get and send xmas cards to.

From one of my recent trips down to help out with the tornados that ripped thru Alabama and MS last year

These news reporters crack me up....talking about the levees and pumps etc etc....one thing ive learned in 20yrs dealing with natural disasters is that if mother nature wants to win, she will......nothing you can do to stop her. She gives us some of the most beautiful things to look at, and some things to look at that are so horrifically sureal that the mind cant begin to grasp at the reality before it
