Gunner attachment
« on: September 08, 2012, 09:41:26 PM »
When I accept a gunner to be attached to my aircraft I would really like some way of knowing...

1. He is actually still attached to my aircraft.
2. What gun he is in.

A permanent and consistent message box (perhaps like the damage indicator we have)  Would show where my gunner is in my aircraft, and if a formation, what plane he is in.

I want this because currently as I am aware, I have no idea whats going on other than that I may, probably, hopefully, still have that player in my airplane and that he might actually be intelligently gunning for me.

For example:

"MK84 attached gunner: Loc. Tail"

Edit:  Perhaps even someday have an actual deathstar (more than just one gunner).

In Air Warrior you could fully crew a bomber.  I.E one player for each gun position.  I suspect we can not do that in AH because of latency between each player, or perhaps it would be extremely difficult to include now, due to game design.

In AW it was difficult to actually fully crew a B17 (aka a Deathstar) due to players dropping when the flight launched.  Thats bad game mechanics. (leaving a couple of your squaddies behind) but was common.   It is possible that technology has caught up, and it is not...possible?  I have no idea.
My real wish though is if I attach one gunner is that as the commander of the airplane I know where he is in my airplane, if at all.

I like this idea. +1 :aok  Some of my fellow CJ's don't have mics or they are not working/having to keep quiet, and having something tell me if he's still on board would be nice.  But to add to this, I'd like the ability to kick someone off the plane as well.  Something like a .kick <person's name>?

As for an option to up a "Deathstar", if you don't take formations you can check a box to allow your bomber to be fully manned?  Don't check that box when you up a single and ye be only allowed the standard 1 gunner.  The box would be grayed out if ye have formations checked.  Something like that?

In AW it was a connection issue. If you didn't drop players, you'd be warping all over the place, it was a mess more times than not.

In Aces High HTC has said they could set it up to run deathstars, or multiple players in a buff, but went with the formations instead. It was one or the other.

Didn't HiTech have the community choose?  A vote type thing?  I though I saw someone say that that's how formations came to be.  HiTech asked, "Formations or Deathstar?".  Formations won. :headscratch:

No HTC decided, but when people started really pushing for it, thats when they kinda gave everyone the option and as nobody wanted to give up the formations, they stayed. I don't think HTC were really serious about switching over to deathstars, but it looked like they gave everyone the choice  :devil

You should be able to communicate with you gunner, via range vox.  Let him know to keep you informed as to which gun he is on, and/or moving to.

I think I Hijacked myself with my own edit

I was wishing for information broadcast to me about my attached gunner.  The deathstar bit was more of a concept.

B17s are already used as Deathstars when fighter hangars are down in AH right now.

They can kill you at distances you can't shoot back at , unless you are in a Yak9 37mm or Bf410

My ammo last for 6 Lancasters, or one Yak3.

A "Deathstar" was coined in Airwarrior, it means a fully crewed B17.  I.e a player for each gun station.  They are rarely used for that purpose, and they can not kill at distances you cant shoot back at.

...But really my wish is really about relaying information about attached gunners.

On topic: Great idea, and if it's possible it would be a marked polishing touch to an already decent system!
