Aside from the drink ban and all, I gotta say I don't think that sugar's good for you but its hard to resist.  About 6 months ago I stopped eating stuff with sugar as much as I could and also cut out pasta and bread.  This from a man who never met a donut he didn't like.  It actually wasn't that hard except that I have noticed that if I have a spoonfull of icecream one night the next day I'm craving something sweet.  I think its because your brain runs on sugar and it likes it.  The reason I stopped eating fast carbs was cause I noticed things like how a bowl of pasta just seemed to make room for more and how I would get hungry or lightheaded like my blood sugar was all over the place now I feel a lot better.  The first month I lost ten pounds, (im 6-0 175ish,) but that might be just muscle disappearing with age.  Don't take this as preaching just sharing my experience.  Still drinking beer but it has less effect than before.

These are people who don't understand the ramifications of a government being able to ban certain drink sizes.

A law that isn't going to affect anyone save the handful of people who already have a ruined day when they drop their ice cream cone... Isn't going to make me view the government as "tyrannical". It's a soda bottle..you can live with just a little bit less...

It is, in fact, a form of tyranny. Look up term "soft tyranny" by Alexis de Tocqueville. What are the limits to a government that can ban drink sizes? Do you really think the Founding Fathers envisioned a country where even a city government could do something like that? I wonder if Mayor Bloomberg has ever heard of the word "liberty", and whether that came into his mind when he proposed this law. If people want to get to buy large sodas and potentially get fat, so be it. It is the responsibility of the individual to look after himself and his family in a civil society; it is not the government's role to act as the all-powerful legislater and arbiter to make decisions on behalf of individuals.

This is the same sort of tyranny that the Federal government wields when it unleashes the EPA on regulating the type of lightbulbs and dish washers we can have. And don't even get me started on their vehicle fuel efficiency standards.

They're still not being "limited" if they're trying to get fat. Go buy all your soda needs from a supermarket if you want. Bloomberg is a pompous moron but this "law" is not that big of a deal. There's still a million other ways to turn yourself into a walking dumpling if you want.

:bhead Did you not read anything I posted? It does not matter if the ban applies only to restaurants and stores and the like. The same principles apply. A government that can ban drink sizes in any manner is a government rooted in tyranny, whether you, sir, can recognize it nor not.

It is sort of. I wrote the title to relate to "large Capacity Magazines". I feel the Soda Law is similar and evident of Tyrants efforts to control the population through "Social Experimentation". Incrementalism is working as they pick away at liberties little by little.
Bloomberg changed the laws to suit himself. He wouldn't be Mayor if he didn't change the Law to allow a 3rd term in NYC.

"The law is OK because it doesn't effect me". Those that think this will change thier tune when it comes to something they like.
I don't drink soda myself or smoke Cigs but would never try to ban them for others.

I always wanted to fight an impossible battle against incredible odds.

:lol So they prevent you from doing something stupid and that makes them tyrannical. I guess the law telling you to wear your bicycle helmet is tyrannical too. Same idea isn't it? Prevents you from hurting yourself, even if it is uncomfortable.

ya I saw the title and thought it was a joke about magazines....then to see they really did pass a law on soda :O

just one more step in total control.....

I can see it now, when they outlaw cash money (which they will)....they are gonna make it seem like its the perfect solution to combating crime........and 95% of the people will completely follow along no problem.

that is my personal cut off date....if I am alive when they ether outlaw green money or make it obsolete(you will have to have some kind of Credit/debit card)....I am done with society......
