Looking for old installation of AH 2.17
« on: September 23, 2012, 07:29:23 PM »
I'm looking for an old set of install files that will get me to 2.17, barring that 2.16. I started recording fraps footage in January 2010 to put together an AH video based off a single sortie I recorded. My video hardware at the time wasn't up to it but I made a decent start. Then I ran out of HDD space. Then an entire slew of changes to the game broke how old films play. Now any hit makes the recipient of this particular film file a fuselage with smoke, gas, radiator and blood all over it, but nothing else (no wings, no tail, etc). It really kills the action footage I wanted to record.

I would like to go back and reinstall 2.17 to try to play back the film viewer from that time in history and hope it doesn't have any graphical issues like it does if I play it in today's film viewer.

If anybody knows where I can find 2.17 (any patch, but patch R3 was the last one) or barring that 2.16, please let me know.

Thank you

I found a copy of the installer for 2.17.3. I'll ftp it up to a private folder on my website and then I'll PM you with the link. Give me a couple of hours.

With bbosen's help I found and installed an old AH version, and it crashed when I ran the film viewer. I was saddened, and tried a couple of even earlier versions, and they crashed also...

... and then I think I figured out why!

Films I have dating 6 months earlier than the one I want still show P-39 sorties with no problem. However the sortie I filmed immediately before the one I want (ended one film, started another) also crashes the film viewer.

I think it's the MA terrain map that is crashing it, or something. Does anybody have any archived MA terrain files from december 2009 or january 2010 time frame?

I have a partial screenshot of the fields around where the combat took place (clipboard screenshot) but don't recall what map it was. Just that it was in the MA.

Here's the screenshot:

Yes, that's all I have. Unless folks know how to read the inner details of a film file via hex editor or whatever.

EDIT: I have a hunch it might be equinox or ozkansas, but can't be sure. I only have ndisles on this basic install.

New wrinkle: I'm not sure it's entirely up to the terrain... I loaded another film where I clearly had no terrain file. The world was nothing but water. No fields where I landed safely, no land mass, no fleet but you could see the ack shooting where it was supposed to be.

So why are these couple of films crashing, when others play on without the terrain?

What else am I overlooking that I might need?

I'm in a P-39D, I'm attacking a C2, n1k2, a 109g6 I think, and there's a few others in the mix like some higher b24s off to the side, etc.

Yep, xbrit, saw that. Sadly I have to make 2 threads because I'm attaching the images under screenshot forum so I can paste them here lol.

Confirmed as ozkansas. I don't know if that is the main problem with my film viewer or now, but the copy I have archived is from 10/2010, buy my film is from 12/2009 or 1/2010. It could be very out of date.

Here's the one from 10 months after the fact. Note the different map, indicating a different version of the terrain release.

WOOT!!!

Don't know WHAT I did... but somehow got it working! With the 10 month older map, no less!

Awesome!

Edit: Slightly less awesome: I can't get skins to show up. Including the skin for my P-39D. That's a major break in continuity... Copied the files over but they aren't showing up.

Does anybody know how to trick the film viewer into playing back with a different skin? I don't have the skin index file so I have to trick it somehow to display 350FG/346FS by Fencer instead of default....

Let me know if you have any ideas. Thanks!

Thanks for all the help, bbosen and all. I'll consider the matter a lost cause and just try to record new footage. It's probably the best answer, and I'll probably make a better video with more footage anyway.
