As far as I know the lomcovac is nothing to do with the gear being down, it's the name of a certain type of tumble.

True, he only mentioned dropping gear in the P-39 and P-40 in order to get the nose pointed down.  Which is something you need to do when you're stalled out in a knife fight at 1000ft with a Spitfire infront of you breaking into a flat turn :D

Lowering landing gear does "help"...
I was fun duelling Redbull a while back and we were twisting and turning. The final turn we were nearly head on ( I was slightly lower), He lowered his gear and my head hit his wheel and I towered  :neener:
