so you're saying all you care about is that you can tell friendly smoke from "others" regardless of the color presented...then all you need is 1 color other than gray.

Technically you'd need two (gray being the default tank fired smoke rounds).
One colour is for smoke dropped by your friendly neighbourhood spotter plane.
Second colour for the smoke dropped by the enemy spotter plane.

think about it...easiest thing to implement...all friendly = green, all enemy = default gray.

Why would the enemy be using grey smoke?  if your side is using some brightly colored smoke I'm sure the enemy would want colorful smoke too.
