I was sitting on the couch about to watch a movie, wife in the kitchen, when all of a sudden it sounded like a snowplow was coming through the house. It increased to the frequency of a jack hammer, and my wife and I locked eyes with a WTF expression on our faces. Our smallest cat ran to the corner and pulled out a duffle bag and started packing his cat toys, till the larger one ran over to him with a look that said "You fool..you'll give us away!"

Ok, that last part was fake. It was freaky though. It was centered about 35 miles from me. My wife finally did say WTF, and I answered..earthquake. That was her first. I havent felt one for years, and never that strong.

It was relatively shallow. Nothing to worry about or see; move along and be sure to give you cats the proper food for the road trip when they leave.

Coming from California, I don't see what the big deal is about a little ground movement.  If it cleared your cabinets out, well, ok, that's annoying.  Just a little shimmy and shake?  That's just for fun.
