Forum issue? After posting hangs on blank screen?
« on: October 16, 2012, 12:43:46 PM »
Today I seem to be having a problem any time I post a reply to a thread. I get to the part where I submit the response, and it takes me to a white page. The URL up top has the ?action= in the URL like it should work, but it stays a white blank screen. It isn't "working" so it never does anyhing. If I go back to the forum main page it shows me that my response was in fact added to the thread, but I think that transition immediately after posting isn't working for me.

I'm using MSIE8 with compatibility mode enabled.

EDIT: And yes it did it on this new post as well as the other reply-to-post actions.

I notice on my Win7 x64 system this is not an issue. This computer uses MSIE8. Not sure if it's some whacked out setting on MSIE8 or what.

MSIE8 on Win7 seems to transition properly after posts. Is it OS related or browser settings?

EDIT: The original post was on a laptop which I believe still has XP x32 on it.

IE8 on XP is severely borked.  I made the grave error in updating my XP system to IE8 and had nothing but troubles with it on many, many sites.  I finally installed Firefox and quit using IE8, except for the Windows update.  No choice there.

Firefox, on XP, work much better than any IE browser.  I suspect Microsoft is trying to bork the XP installations so it will coerce one into installing Windows 7, or better.  ;)

I was forced to update because how MSIE7 was running into major problems. I guess that answers my question, though. I'll just try to remember to use Firefox on the laptop.

I had the same problems Krusty.  Switched to Firefox and issue is gone.
I regret doing business with TD Computer Systems.

Is Firefox better than chrome?

I do not know if one is better than the other, but I would not trust Google as far as I could toss them.

Chrome is part of Google's data collection service. It collects everything you do or type and reports directly back to google to better serve (read: make profits) from your use of their free browser. They even "accidentally" had this plainly spelled out in the EULA at first, until folks rioted about it. So Google did what they all do: Removed it from the EULA without changing any actual code.

Chrome does seemingly have a small footprint and is about comparable to Firefox from all the reviews I've seen. If it weren't for the fact that Google is a souless greedy info-stealing mega corporation that wants to be the next Microsoft (in all the worst ways) I'd give it a fair shake. Because they are, avoid Chrome.
