« on: November 07, 2012, 09:24:19 AM »
So i almost completed buying almost all the parts for my new PC. Got the GTX 670 yesterday evening, and i don't know if it has a built-in sound card. I am a bit afraid of already putting it in my motherboard as i don't know if i should buy one of those sound-cards. Also, i use wireless internet and i don't know if i should buy a wifi card. Please help :C

Your GTX 670 most certainly doesn't have a sound circuit, but your motherboard most likely has one. Look for three round jacks, coloured pink, green and blue. The green one is for front speakers or headphones, the pink for microphone.

Without knowing your motherboard's model it's impossible to tell if it has a built-in wifi circuit. Most don't have one. If there is one, it might have an external antenna jack, a golden screw.

Bizman unfortunately I must say you are incorrect. The card has on-board sound but, and i stress this.. if his monitor has speakers built into it and he uses a HDMI cable, I have 2 of the EVGA 570GTX and they both have on-board sound but only if I use HDMI. I had to go in to the sound properties and disable the sound for them as it was causing a conflict with my soundcard.

AS per the OP's original questions..

With the sound card the sounds are immensely different and alot crisper.

this is the card I am using right now... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829102033&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleAdwords&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-_-pla-_-NA-_-NA

i love it... btw it has voice morphing capabilities... he he

Here is a good starter for a sound card

just make sure you get a good headset to go with it.

per the wireless as Skuzzy would say... GO Hard Wired.... no chance of dropped packets..

Just my opimion..

My bad, I forgot about the HDMI sound carrying ability. Didn't think that anyone would seriously want to hear AH sounds through those tiny 0.2W speakers  :t

Motherboard sound circuits have developed significantly during the years I've been playing AH, so again, without knowing the mobo it's hard to tell what the onboard sound quality would be. The best sound circuits have a separate shielded board, the second best have the circuit shielded. The 5.1 circuit on my trusty GA-EP35 sounds good enough through my 5.1 Medusa headset, the background hum is audible only without any sound source. Tried a separate card with same results.

As per the original question, "Do I need a sound card" it depends on what you're going to do with your rig. For AH and other games you might rather want something that'll kick the crap out of you when a bomb explodes, which means the mobo's onboard sound accompanied with a ghetto blaster would work fine, for a music studio pc you'd definitely want something more sophisticated.
