Been playing a long time but this left me shaking
« on: December 01, 2012, 12:32:08 PM »
Upped to defend 16 against a gigantic horde this morning, a sea of red. Tried defending the cv a bit but the cons would run to the horde if they saw me. Eventually I worked my way over there. DMGod, Twinboom, and maybe a couple of others were there. Once over the base I saw a low set of lancs bombing the town. Nice big target and if I die at least I have a kill. Dove in hard on the lancs, pull full left rudder to reduce my speed. Blasted in and pinged one and killed another. Full power on and climb out. Spot 2 f6s strafing uppers on the runway. Went for the one lowest. That would allow me a good climb out, keep my E, and position me for an f4 that could come into the attack.

Now it gets tense. I target the f6. He does what he has to do being that low, he climbs out and turns right. Full silhouette. He gets hammered and I'm in perfect position for the f41a. The f41a doesn't see me. Power toward him coming up and and and I miss. Well I pinged him lightly. Forgot to turn my tracers on from when I was in a Werble. Often don't use tracers in a werble. Keeps the bad guys guessing. So we get into a tangle. I may have pinged him a hair more but then he pulls a great move. I know the move I just wasn't mentally prepared for it. About that time the second f6 joins in. The tracers are flying by my screen. Now if I had the skills I may have done something else but I raised my flaps and hit war emergency power and dove. Looking back the F6 and F41a are 400 off my six. Time for a prayer. For some reason I'm extending a bit. Not sure why. I expect to out run the F6 but not the 1a. Maybe I knocked something off of him. Both are pinging me. Yet no damage. Then I realize I'm heading straight for their CV and folks there is a horde of lifters. It was nearly a wall of red. About that time Twinboom asks me if I needed help. Oh lord, do I need help. He comes in and pulls the two bad guys off. I see the f41a lift his nose and that's the opportunity I needed. I flat turn hard left and swoop under the f4 and f6. Then another f6 comes in from high and with enormous E. He pings me lightly and pulls up. Now it's a spits turn. he goes for the HO and I duck under, Yeah that would be all of 200 ft. He misses completely. Now I'm crossing over the base which is just full of Bish. An LA zooms from left to right, I pull the trigger. Not sure what happens next or where it came from but I get kill 3 and 4. Maybe the F4 or maybe the LA. Then again maybe some proxies. Zipped past the shore after a few more dove on me but for some unknown reason pull off or maybe just didn't have the E. Looking back I see at least 5 cons. The only one that could possibly catch me is the 109.

And then I see a high P47 and he sees me. Needing to keep E I keep going until he is dangerously close. Then I yank the stick right and the rascal doesn't pull up but turns. Must have felt secure about having so many friendlies near by. No way I can keep going back into the Bish horde. I take a risk and whip the f4 left back into the P47. He nails me. Takes off part of my tail. A chunk of tail as HiVolt would put it later. I'm still flying and his e is burnt. About that time I get kill #5 from the Lancs I hit earlier.

Then a spit dives in. He's closing too. At about the 1,000 yards he quits gaining. No way would I turn and face the other 5 behind him as well. Then the F4 was flying funny. It kept wanting to lift. Must have been the missing elevator.

At last I land at 10 where HiVolt makes the comment about the tail. Give a big thanks to Twinboom. No way I would have made it out if he didn't ask if I needed help. For the record I think that is the first time in years anyone has asked if I needed help. That is just so welcome.

Afterwards I was so pumped with adrenaline that I was shaking and then really excited. Maybe a wee bit too excited. On my very next sortie I augured.

That was well written GB, it made me feel like I was right there with ya, and also made me think of similar situations I've gotten into and how some friendly fellow has bailed me out of it.

Salute to you.

In my several years of AH playing there have been only a few fights that I'll always remember.

Those are the salt of the game. One of those fights for me was my first sortie with the P40B. I returned home after furballing with 4 kills missing an aileron, half elevator and rudder. 120 rounds ammo left. Oil leak too. I limp home on the deck. Then I see a chasing LA7. I was sure I'd die, I dumped the remaining little alt I had and made last desperate attempt to survive the first pass. The LA zoomed up, I pinged him with 1 hit. He zoomed down and augered. BOOM 5th kill and I landed them :D

The other was when I zoomed 15k down in a Pony D just to realize I was piggybacking a 20 plane mission on route to bomb our field. I started shooting them one by one and made 7 kills in one pass before they realized what was going on :)

Third one must be the final battle of the squad dueling league where I had the honor of finishing off the last opponent for our squads total victory.

That was a well written story....usually when I see the 1000 word essays, I breeze thru it and move on. This one, I actually spent time reading...
and I know the shakey adrenaline feeling after an awesome fight...WTG!

Nice AAR Getback :aok.  Sometimes that one well timed clear makes the difference between a death and one of your best sorties.  Plus you were flying a proper Pirate's aircraft :D

That is my best sortie ever. When I finished I couldn't wait to get back in the air again.
