Quick Clarification on Skin Size
« on: December 12, 2012, 08:23:44 AM »
I'm looking to start going through and updating some of the skins I'd submitted in the past to use bump and environment mapping. I did want to clarify a point:

Quote
The main external skin bitmaps must be a minimum of 1024x1024 pixels in size.  Otherwise, the size must match the original texture size.

Does this mean a 2048x2048 skin will NOT be accepted?
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

Currently the only skin that can be 2048 by 2048 is the B-29. This size is only going to be used for new or updated large aircraft (i.e 4 engined bombers) for the foreseeable future.

Thanks for the clarification. Ah well, so much for uber-hi-res Corsairs.  :D

1024 texture = 4MB of texture space.
2048 texture = 16MB of texture space.

How many plane skins could you see before your video card croaked due to no more memory?

See the problem?

Are new cockpit interior skins going to be allowed? I've always wanted to see the the bubble-top -1 Corsair interiors match the actual Vought colors (zinc chromate yellow on the rear bulkhead, floor, firewall, and most other interior components. Only the walls above the side instrument panels were done in interior green).

At the moment, they are not allowed.

By the way, I have pulled your skins out of the "Orphan" queue.  Welcome back.

Thanks.

Ended up having to completely remake my skinning templates for the Hogs from scratch.  :P The paint chipping should look REALLY sweet with environment mapping effects applied, tho. :D
