Freeview in fighters?
« on: November 29, 2012, 06:41:16 AM »
Hi all

I was recently watching a few Aces high videos and I noticed several different people all displaying a Freeview shot of them dogfighting.

By Freeview, I mean the view you get when clicking F3 or F4.

This view would give you, as a fighter, a significant advantage in visibility in dogfighting.
However, whenever I press F3 or F4 when in a fighter, nothing happens. I can only use "Freeview" in Bomber category aircraft.

I'm confused

That's why that view is NOT allowed in game. You can however set up shot from the film viewer to have that free view your talking about. That is one reason you should film all your fights. You can watch the fight for many different angles and maybe learn from it.

Hmm, maybe I should.

Still getting the hang of the dogfighting, but starting to get a kill here and there.
How a 109 can dive on me from 6K above, then turn round on me on a dime escapes me however!

Ya it will seem like that for a while until you start learning the how's of more of the maneuvers. It could be a yoyo turn with a bunch of rudder to slow it down, the rudder is pretty strong on the 109.

When i first started playing i remember thinking that players where doing things that where dang near imposable.
Watching my fights especially the others guys (stored energy) and his (expended energy) and watching there flaps settings helped me a lot.

This game has a steep learning curve that takes time, what helped me the most though was getting a trainer or trainers is best.
They are able to explane what is happening during the time of fighting, this helps a lot with muscle memory and just learning ACM (air combate maneuvers)
good luck.

Watch films, set the view to external and enable trails.  Best way to see what happens in a fight and the trails will help highlight the maneuvers used in the fight.

External view modes, and a couple other training wheeles built into the game, are enabled in some of the other arenas to make it easier to train and learn how to play the game before you're ready for the MAs.  Checkout the training arena or for more combatants head to furball lake in the dueling arena (take advantage of the free perk planes in there too).
