traded in the mini for a full size ipad 3. I'm not impressed with the battery life, but it's a good unit.

Me too. Had it almost a year and absolutely love it. I had to return it after 6 months for a defective camera ("green screen" of death) but other than that, can't live without it. Not only is having the ability to type on a keyboard (vs Glass), expansion slots for SD and micro SD, full sized USB port nice, but that extra 8 hours of battery life is wonderful.  I'm connected to it via Foxfi on my Android phone. Neither the phone nor the tablet needs to be 'rooted'. One data plan, two hardware...and I can still take calls while tethered to the tablet while traveling down the road at 70 mph. (This assumes I'm surfing as a passenger! LOL!)

I  quickly undock from the keyboard when I head to bed to read books.  :rock

When I show this tab to the iPad phanbois they get really mad. LOL! Apple is way behind the technology curve for hardware these days.
That sounds like the way to go then from what your saying .  I would like to have one with a GPS but if it will not work where there no signal then I will just have to use my GPS I have and just buy one without it .

GPS works great on the tablet with a Wifi connection, not so much when tethered to the phone.
Work around: I can use the smart phone GPS while tethered to the tablet. Problem solved. :) (I have tried it and it works, but I never do it since I have Navigation in both the 4Runner and the BMW)

This is literally what I do for a living, I've read the comments, some are good, some...not so much.  PM me if you have any questions, perhaps I can help.

Apologize to Flench for the mini hijack but do you know of any alternative to Foxfi?  Foxfi doesnt like HTC phones apparently so Im stuck.  Not wanting to root my phone to get the free tethering between phone and tablet.  As of right now I have free tether between my laptop and phone using pdanet.  Just dont know of a way to tether between phone and tablet whether bluetooth or through USB cord.  I have a Sony Tablet S and a HTC Vivid.

You're tethering via bluetooth on foxfi, right? I've never been successful via wifi tether but no issues with bluetooth.

Here are some alternatives.

oops I forgot after rooting your phone then download the wifi tether app.  it's free on the market.  just click on it and you can tether away.  you can install passwords too.

I just upgraded from a BB PlayBook to a Galaxy with 10 inch.  The improvement is huge, the BB was 200 and I payed 300 total for the Samsung on black Friday.  The wife uses an ipad 2 retina, and it has the best screen of all the tablets over seen, but it is twice the money of the galaxy.  You can't go wrong with either.
