With 256MB of dedicated video RAM, you need to turn off all the "advanced" graphic options (Options->Graphic Detail->Advanced).  "Detailed Water" and "Bump Map Terrain" can be checked.

In the "Video Settings", set the "Maximum Texture Size" to 256.

See if that smooths things out for you.  You can easily run your video card out of video RAM, which then forces the system RAM to be used for video storage and that is much, much slower than the dedicated video RAM.

That's exactly what I run.

Sadly, I had to experiment to get to those settings.

Seeing that I run comparatively superior settings on an inferior system makes me feel bad for how hard I'm pushing the poor thing. :D But every time my frame rate dunks (barring a bug report I've yet to make...) I know its my own fault.

Skuzzy:

I checked my options->graphicdetail->advanced->max texture        It was set at 1024.

I have now set it to 512, which is the lowest it will allow me to. I will see if this helps.

Im experiencing the lag in more instances during the game,I've now noticed it in the cockpit over airfields a lot recently. Smoke/flames   are present at all times when I lag.

I'll play for awhile at 512, but there is not a 256 setting that I can select.

thanks,
Rot

  Rot,

that's not the setting that Skuzzy is talking about,on the startup page were you select online/offline you will see a "video settings",select that and adjust the maximum texture size to 256 there.   You also might benefit from a reduced resolution, less pixels to move around.

I'd experiment with 512 at a lower res VS 256 at present res and see which works better.

Another thing to check when you're experincing this lag, right click on clipboard map and select "net status",look at top graph it should have a straight line,if the line is sawtoothed then you're having internet issues.

YMMV   as I will bow to skuzzy's superior knowledge in these matters.

    hope that helps!

   :salute

PS:  you might consider a better vidcard!

Copy Morfiend. Thank you.

I'll see if that works.

I have suspected my internet service may play a role at times and I'm checking out a better video card.

Thanks,

Rot
