The Maginot Line wasn't that much of a bad idea given the situation France was in pre-war.
It was also a tough nut to crack.
in itself the magino line was a very effective defense, but stopping at belgium thinking that the Germans would never go through a neutral country to attack france seems incredible 60 years later. When the attack occurred the Belgians were actually confident they could stop the germans
