We were on a quest to take base 41 from Knights this morning. So I up a goon from 136. Which actually was my second trip. Was killed waiting at town the first time. Fortunately for me this time they were calling for troops and I was only 3 minutes out.
Now I tell you I know better but I sure wasn't thinking for the better. Just as I was looking for a place to land a PT boat spawns right in front of me. I mean right in front. I dodge left a little but I went right over him, cringing, just knowing I'm bout to become fodder. He doesn't see me. But then he does and misses. You just know he told the whole Knight country about the goon. There's a lot of chatter about an M8 on shore. Zooming in I see the m8 on the south side of the town. My guess is he was picking off LTVs. He's also smoking. Still though that is where I had planned on landing. It was the furthest point from the base and by the town. A bit of a cushion from the base and uppers.
Next landing target was on the shore side. I came in a bit hot. Well as hot as a c47 can be. Lower my gear and start skidding across the sand and grass. I miss the best spot and skid to a halt right by a smoking werble. The werble is on the other side of a ridge but I can see him smoking quite clearly. Then he comes over the ridge which also happens to be a road into town. He's 400 ft. away. You could see the icon. He doesn't see me but heads up the road. Then I hear let the troops out. "I can't the werble is right here." Let them out. There's a T34 heading to the map room. I let them out. It looks like the werble missed the troops. Then the T34 sees them. I just don't think they made it to the map room. No capture here.
Well I'm sitting there and just admiring the action. Red guys are flying just in front of me and friendlies going after them. Just solid action. Finally a Brewster sees me. In his zest he clips a tree while bearing on me. That would be kill #4 in my goon this camp. Then an F6 sees me but he's wobbling a bit and couldn't quite bring his guns to bear. I think someone dispenses him. Another f6 comes in. He sees me but our guys are all over him, first an elevator, rudder, and then his tail. One of guys dive bombs the werble and kills him and kills himself. The T34 towers with 4 kills. Now we have Ltvs almost to town. The Brewster who blessed me with a kill has comeback. This time he gets me but ignores the troops running to the map room. We get the base.
