No audio after connecting HDMI monitor
« on: December 26, 2012, 01:19:39 PM »
Salute all

I went out and got myself a 27inch LED this morning, specifically for AH2.  It can connect through either an HDMI cable or a VGA.  I'm running a GTX 680 on Windows 7.  Since connecting with the HDMI cable I get about 2 seconds of sound then it cuts out.  I've set my G35 headset as the default sound device yet still have this problem.  Does anybody else have any experiences with this?  If I connect with a standard VGA cable instead of an HDMI cable will I lose any picture quality?

Thanks

You might try this:

Go into the Windows Device Manager and disable the HD sound device on your video card, which is trying to send digital sound signal down the HDMI cable to your monitor.

If you do not want audio going to your monitor, then you need to disable the sound device associated with your video card or they will interfere with normal audio to any other device.

Yeah, I disabled them, made sure that the default device was my logitech.  I finally got the sound to work.....but there was nothing I could do to get the microphone to work.  So I just used a DVI to VGA adapter from the vid card and then a VGA connection in my monitor :(  Bye bye 1080p :(

I have heard endless troubles with those HDMI sound drivers.  Seems once they are enabled, it is a real nightmare to get everything working again.

I am always careful to not allow video card drivers to install those sound drivers.

There's something I don't quite understand: How come you can't get the 1920x1080 resolution to work on VGA? My monitor has all three connectors, VGA, DVI and HDMI, but the only cable that came with it was VGA. The only difference I've noticed between the analog (VGA) and digital connections, is that VGA doesn't necessarily find the correct settings automatically, especially with an adapter. Correcting the settings only takes a few mouse clicks and a reboot and usually only has to be made once.

What Bizman says is true.  Also note that all LCD panels are progressive, by nature, and not interlaced.  Most of the last generation of analog monitors could also run non-interlaced.
