Is it possible to disable VOX altogether?
« on: January 03, 2013, 07:21:15 PM »
My frame rate is diving from FPS to SPF when VOX activity picks up.

I've got an old CPU and on-board sound.  At this time, I can't do anything to upgrade hardware.

Can I do something to disable VOX processing?

Have you tried turning the vox volume all the way down?  I don't know if that disables the processing or not but it's worth a try.  You also have to keep in mind that your CPU also has to process all of the other game sounds as well.

For a very small investment you can purchase a sound card.  There are external USB sound cards as well as internal PCI sound cards, either of which you should be able to find for under $20.  While the PCI card will have considerable better performance even a USB sound solution will help to alleviate the CPU of some of it's sound processing duties.  Just make sure you disable the onboard sound from bios before installing a new card.

Don't turn the volume down, instead turn sound accelerating down one or two notches.

Any sound card that costs around $20 is NOT going to make any improvement in how your system handles sound.

A DXDIAG output might prove helpful.  There could be other reasons why sound processing is eating up your frame rate.

Thank you all for the thoughts and suggestions.

I was actually using a Logitech G930 along with the on-board sound.  I didn't realize the G930's transmitter was more.  In fact, it's a whole sound card on a USB stick.  So, I disabled the on-board sound.  That cleared up a lot of the complications in the windows audio configuration options.

I did a little more reading in the forums and decided to adjust my page file from 4096 MB to 512 MB.

I guess there's no way to toggle off VOX.
I'll  have to try the new sound configuration another time.
Presently, I'm offline only, but I shall return.

Thanks again fellas.
