Old player catching up.
« on: January 29, 2013, 04:35:38 PM »
Hey all.

Im about to return from the game, i used to play alot back in the day starting out with WB and then switching to AH when it first came available, the thing that worries me atm is now when i return alot of new aircrafts have been added to the game, and i might not know where these fit in the performance ladder of the old aircrafts so to speak.

I suspect that most new aircraft added is in the late war segment or?

Yes, particularly if you keep in mind that all EW & MW planes are availbale there too. The only planes excluded from Late War are the WW1 planes.

How long have you been gone, when did you play AH the last time?

Been asking myself that question too, im not entirely sure, its been a good while, when i played the P51D was a top performer in the late war era, you had a few perk aircraft aswell but not that many.

Welcome back maniac.  My last tour before returning a couple months ago was March 2006.  There are a number of changes to the flight models also.  I'm still picking up on the differences but it isn't too hard to get 85% caught up just by going in and flying.  The bases and towns are different...I don't remember if we had towns in 2003 but we had them in 2006.  You have to kill the town next to the base rather than the base, then deliver troops to the town maproom.  Each town has a flag which changes colors based on the status of the town.  Basically you need to get enough of the town destroyed to get a white flag at town before dropping troops for capture.

Strategic targets such as the city, factories now exist and bombing them effects downtime of whatever they produce.  We still have a HQ that is destroyable to kill all radar for that country.  Beyond that I don't know much about strategic stuff as I am still relearning how to keep my planes in the air vs. the dirt lol.  Snailman is a good source of info for all that stuff, you might check his posts.  The offer from vudu on his films is a good idea also to get caught back up.  Most of that stuff you will either know or remember as you watch the film....good stuff.

As far as the differences in planes the biggest standout for me are the F4U's which are much easier to fly slow and much much more nimble than back when I was flying.  The mustang is pretty similar to what you're used to I think.  I haven't yet jumped in all the planes available to see what the differences are but there are some changes for sure....some less...some more.

Wait until you mump into a GV Manic. I also retured this week from a couple year break. I jumped in a tank last night and I couldnt figure out how to shift gears like we used to. Resaving all the head postions in the planes sucks!
