Fuzzy Text with HD7750
« on: February 04, 2013, 06:41:20 AM »
The plane icons at a distance are fuzzy since I installed a new video card HD7750.  Makes it hard to give a check 6.

I did a google and found an old thread that suggest  anisotropic texture filtering may be the issue.  I checked and my setting is "Use Application Setting".

Before I start making changes, I thought I would ask about the cause of fuzzy icons.

i do have the latest drivers but not the beta.  My fps runs 60 most of the time.  1920X1080 with texture set at 1024.

Where should I start on my video setting?

When you first start the game (application) click on the "video settings" button. In there is a slider that you use to set the amount of anti-alising. Where is yours at? I'm guessing towards the "more" side. Knock it down a notch and check the game again.

It is still to the far left.  I have not tried sliding it to the right.

Did you uninstall the drivers of your previous card and possibly disable it in the bios (many on-board cards disable automatically when a pci-e card is installed)? The drivers on the cd shipped with the card might work better than the latest ones which may have features not available in your card.

Have you experimented with different font sizes in the game Options->Preferences->GUI->IconFontSize?

Before installing the new card I went to the device manager and deleted the onboard device and drivers.  i then installed the new card, went to bios and noted the onboard video was disabled.  I then installed the new drivers, then did a driver update.

I just went back to the Device Manager and I found "nvdia eforce pci system management" under "system devices".  I right clicked and under properties it said no driver available.

I do have the font set to maximum size.

I should also note the fuzzy font is only in AH.  All fonts like on the desk top and this forum are sharp and clean.

Try lowering it a little. I just tried it with the maximum which is 20. On my 30" @ 2560x1600 monitor it looked like bolded and especially the red enemy icons looked a little garbled. I've used size 16 both with my previous 24" @1920x1200 and this and it looks sharp and readable even with my aging eyes. IIRC the old monitor gave similar results when the text size was at the largest.

I'd like the smallest possible icons so I could see the actual plane i.e. target better. Size 16 is a compromise big enough to be able to read a friendly name without having the screen dominated with (red) icons the size of my thumbprint.

If you really need bigger icons, try with different colour settings. With the sliders in either end the colours are clean and glowing, a little notch can make a huge difference in visibility.

I think I have it fixed although I did not get much of a test.  In the AMD control panel, a default setting is 10% underscan.  I set that to zero and everything seems to look better.
