Bomb and Gunnery Practice staged missions on and off line
« on: November 27, 2013, 08:52:21 AM »
Some of you have had problems using these offline with the program crashing during a warp segment.  I have not been able to determine why that is happening on some computers, but I have 2 missions posted without warp segments as well as 6 with warp segments.  The instructions for on and off line arena setup and mission descriptions are posted in a pdf  to make it easy to print out and the inairspawn mission is posted here to use offline only.  It crashes when you try to use it online in a custom arena.  It is in a zipped format because of file type restrictions on the forum.  Download it and extract it and copy it to your C:\Hitech Creations\Aces High\missres folder.  You will find that the offline AI planes are easier targets than the online AI planes in a custom arena.  The instructions are a full page, but it is simpler than it looks and you only have to set up your arena once.  Your computer will remember the settings when you use that terrain again.  Good Luck.
                                           Mission Descriptions

Warp Missions (may not work offline)

Heavy Fighter:  All of these missions start at A1 for Bishops or Allied and warp to A23, a small Knight field.  There are 2 flights of 2 heavy fighters each for Bishops and 3 A6M for the Knights defending A23.  Drop your ords on your target of choice or dump them and engage the fighters.  Your friendly AI fighters for Bishops will have bombs and rockets and they don’t fare well dog fighting.  The mission title designates the type of heavy fighter and the h indicates heavy.  They are smf4f6hva6m,  smp51p38hva6m,  smp51p47hva6m.

Fighter Mix:  Four Allied slick fighters for the Bishops and 3 Axis fighters for the Knights.  Both flights take off and warp to a point near A23 where they will engage.  Choose either side.  This is smftrmix.

Level Bombing:  A flight of 3 B-17’s for the Bishops with 12 500 lb bombs take off and warp to a point near A23.  The drones are usually in front after the warp, but will form on you if you are number 1 plane.  Drop your bombs on your target of choice and continue in southwesterly direction.  4 Knight 109’s will take off and warp to near A23 to engage the bombers, usually after bombs are dropped.  This is smb17hv109.

Bomber Attack and Defense:  A flight of 3 B-17’s for the Bishops with 12 500 lb bombs take off and warp to a point near A23.  .  There are 2 flights of 2 slick fighters each for Knights, which will also take off and warp to a point near A23 and engage the bombers before they reach A23.  Choose either side.  This is smp51p47vb17.

                                     No Warp Missions for offline

Fighter Mix:  Four Allied slick fighters for the Bishops and 2 flights of 2 slick fighters for the Knights.  Both flights take off and follow a flight path to the south end of the island where they will engage.  Your flight path shows on your clipboard as a red line if you have My Flight checked when you right click on the clipboard.  Choose either side.  The offline AI typically shoot at other AI planes, but not the player’s plane, but they do try to avoid you.  This is smnowarpftr.

Heavy Fighter:  Five Allied heavy fighters for the Bishops and 4 slick fighters for the Knights spawn in the air at about 10000 feet near A27.  Either drop your ords on the target of your choice and engage the fighters or just dump them and engage the fighters.  Note this mission will work offline, but not in a custom arena online.  This is inairspawn3 and can be downloaded only at the staged mission forum posting.

1.  Go to the on line arenas and click on Create Arena.
2.  Name your arena anything you want
3.  Choose ndisles terrain.  Choose a pass word if you want to limit entry to your arena.  Choose ndisles arena configuration settings.  Leave everything else at default.  Click Create.
4. The following are recommended, but optional changes.
4a. Click on Options/Arena Setup/Environment/Arena Settings/General Tab.  Go to Exit while Moving/Change and check Plane/OK so you can end sortie in flight.
4b. Go to Flight Model Flags/Change and check Lead Computed Gunsight and Dive Bombsight to use the Dive Bombsight and Lead Computed Gunsight,  Click OK.  The Dive Bombsight will come up when you select bombs or rockets as secondary and the Lead Computing Gunsight will come up when you select a enemy plane in front of you with the tab key and a rectangle appears around the plane icon.
4c.  Go to Weapons Tab/Change and change the 3 GroundAutoLethality settings from 1.0 to .1 to minimize ack  Click OK/Close.  Do not click Save.
4d.  Back/Back to the first clipboard screen.  You should only have to do this once.  The next time you select custom arena, the settings above should be as you left them.
5.  Click on Staged Missions when you are in the tower, then Select Mission.  Deselect Load Mission Arena Settings.
6.  In the top menu click on a mission.  See the mission descriptions above.
7.  The first time you choose a mission Click Download so you can play it offline.
8.  Click Load Mission
9.  Click Populate Mission, click on your name and double click the plane you want to fly usually no. 1.  If more people join your arena, you can assign them to either group of planes.  Excellent Squad practice.  Close the Populate window.
10. Click on Start Mission.  It may have taken you back to the first tower view.  Just click on Staged Missions, then Start Mission.
11.  Click Start Now.  It will put you in your plane and you should Auto Takeoff if your throttle is up and you have auto takeoff selected in your Options/Preferences/Flight.  If you don't, take off manually and maintain runway heading.
12.  You will warp to a point near a small enemy or friendly field when you get close to the water depending on your choice of countries.  The warp transition is smoother if you select auto level flight when you reach 200-300 feet altitude.  Some missions the axis side do not warp, but defend the field they take off from.
13.  Choose your target and drop your ords on the target or engage the enemy aircraft depending on the mission.
14.  Crash or click End Sortie on the clip board when you are through and then click Staged Missions/Kill Mission.
15.  Go back to step 5 and repeat until you are confident of your ability to bomb targets.  At some point you need to deselect the  Dive Bombsight and Lead Computed Gunsight.

16.  For off line play, choose ndisles for the terrain at the first Aces High screen.
17. Follow steps 4-6 and 10-15, there is no populate or load required
