PERK POINTS
« on: January 26, 2001, 11:24:00 AM »
What possible justification is there for awarding them when your plane is blown to bits??

I flew from 28, bombed the refinery near 33, turned to A35 and dropped the VH and FH at which point Dumas relieved me of my airplane.

I did not bail and the plane exploded and I got 6.75 points for the mission.

This POINT CRAP is ridiculous.

And
When, if ever may we expect an Historical Arena?

I realize this point issue is not much of one for many, if not most, AH paying customers but am I the only one who thought they were paying for an online WWII flight simulation?

It is all about numbers, I know, we have been and will be told that fact many times but this operation is over a year old and still only a game with little resemblence to a simulation of WWII air war.

How long?
Another forbidden question, right?

<<<<<< Loves any suggestions regarding historical arena's or alternatives to MA.

Count my vote for HA.

BTW..we have the SEA, can't that just be set up like the MA (except when it is used for events) for those of us who just want to go do Country A/C against Country A/C? (ie. LW vs British iron, or Japanese vs S.Pacific American A/C)

Edit: With 200+ online every stinking night of the week, I can't see where it would hurt the MA at all...

CC Ripsnort, I'd be very interested in seeing some flying done in the SEA. My understanding right now is that it is closed?

I dont think the SEA is closed....in fact Sunchaser and I and others used to go in there on an almost nightly basis before version 1.05 came out just to get away from the old Beta "Osties High" map.  From what I understood about it though is that HTC wouldnt set it up with historical matchups....but we were able to ask people to fly historical planes and to keep it to one country or another.  We never had any problem with anybody who showed up.  In fact I believe everybody who came in didnt have a problem with keeping the matchups historical and in theater even.

Oh...(edit)

On the other hand...we were using the Med terrain.  Is that the same as the SEA?  Not sure but anyway....that was just our experience with it.

HTC, please do not dismiss this thread with some daft argument about 3 sided wars and people logging off and bollocks like that.

Think very carefully.

In a month or two (ish) when the open beta for wwiionline begins........you WILL see a serious drop in numbers while people try it out.   And if it's more fun than the Hog C infested MA.........well, cant afford more than 1 MMOG.

Not enough players for 2 arenas?  ok, only use 1 then.

People wont like it?  Bollocks.  All the HAers will be happy and most of the MAers couldnt give a sh*t as long as the Hog C is available somewhere.

You've got the map editor, you've got players willing to spend weeks making historical maps, all ya need is a balanced plane set.  Perk planes are all well and good but some people on this BB have been calling for JU-52s, Betty's, HE-111s, etc for the last year.   Ever?

And, while I am bumping this yet again in the hope of a reply from HTC, let me add this.

I think that if I, or anyone else for that matter, take off and waste the entire Bishop Homeland  but do not land at a friendly base or bail or ditch in friendly territory NO POINTS should be awarded.

I am totally opposed to this perk point idea but if we must live with it at least apply some limits please.

Well actually it took WB over a year and a half to get an HA up and going. HOWEVER, we have a SpitIX, a 109F4, a Ju88, a SpitV and a Lancaster. Anyone see where I'm going with this?

We had a BoB terrain (someone has to make it Sunchaser, you get someone to make it and the job is complete, we just need to push HTC's buttons a little) and we had the above planeset minus the Lancaster. The HA was great fun. Icons limited to friendly only and that was only 3K out.

I would spend my time in an HA with the above planeset and not bother with the MA unless it the HA was totally deserted. Open it up, put in a BoB terrainset (or we could do a med terrain) and we've got ourselves a good setup.

I think anyway, I'm sure you guys would enjoy my above mentioned HA setup.

Use the Lancs and Ju88s to shut down fields, but not capture them and we could be in for an interesting series of fights.

Even with 40 people, if all 40 people only flew out of only two fields you'd find yourself one amazing furball... dare I say better than anything you'd find in the MA.

<drools at the thought of using a 109F4 and a single cannon loadout downing brit fighters>

I seem to recall we tried setting the SEA up as a kind of psuedo HA for a few hours a day once or twice a week.  Complete with axis v allied planes (cept bombers and goon).  Verra low numbers IIRC, so it that particular 'event' either got nixed or underwent a format change (can't remember which).  Also, IIRC, when it was announced in the MA that it was starting up there would be 30-40 people show up but within 30minutes it would dwindle to 3-4.  I know this happened because one night when it was my turn to help watch over it I was about 45min late logging on and when I got in there were only 3 people, and they all left to go to the MA as I entered the SEA.

And most of you folks screaming/voting yes for a HA were here at that time.

Of course I suppose it could just be that I'm delusional or something

Sun, about the points, if I make it to target and actually accomplish my mission I expect to get something.  Maybe the object values are too high and the multiplier for actually landing is way too low.  Dinnae, not my call to make.

I understand the desire for some reward for flying a bomber, or any aircraft to and damaging your selected target, I just do not understand the desire for such reward regardless of the final outcome.

I see there are options incoming from people who, unlike me, do more than complain and that is encouraging.

The problem I see with consistant numbers in an HA is that, no matter how hardcore some profess to be they just gotta see where they stand in the numbers game as it applies to the whole flock.
Therefore they stay in the main where the score counts as opposed to the HA where it does not.

I am sure an HA will contain some sort of overall ranking system but could really care less.
I really do not care how many people are higher than me or where CavemanJ(just a convenient example Cave.)fits into the overall scheme of things scorewise.

All I need to see regarding what I do is the outcome, ie: Mission accomplished, Baled, Baled/Captured, KIA.

I am not being critical of how anyone else perceives these issues, just adding my opinion to the mix.
